5 cool things from Shimano, TRP, Lezyne and Muc-Off – off.road.cc

Not that every week isn’t full of awesome new kit, but we’ve really pulled something out of the bag this week! There’s two Shimano groupset in, SLX 12 speed for a mountain bike and GRX 1x for a gravel bike, we’ve also got TRP e-bike brakes, waterless wash and what looks like a great value GPS from Leyne. Dig in!

TRP G-Spec E-MTB brakes

These are new e-mtb brakes from TRP, which they say, are not just a rebranded downhill brake. These have thicker rotors to decrease operating heat and a redesigned calliper to accommodate the thicker discs whilst also altering to make it stiffer and managed increased heat better too. The G-Spec e-MTB was topped off with new lever body design to shave some weight, with the same Arron Gwin designed lever blade is kept to emulate other TRP brakes in terms of modulation.

Shimano GRX gravel groupset

Heading to a gravel build near you soon, the new gravel groupset from Shimano is all here and ready to roll on Rachael’s longtermer. There are lots of options involving the GRX groupset, you can have 10 or 11 speed, 1 or 2x and mechanical or electronic gearing. We’ve gone 1x 11 and kept with the less pricey mechanical shifters. We’ll have a full first look with weights for each component including wheels, coming up in the week so stay tuned for that.

Shimano SLX 12 speed

Also from Shimano we’ve got the new SLX 12 speed groupset to test. Our Jon went out to ride this, plus the XT version of the new groupset earlier this year and we are dead keen to get the most wallet friendly drivetrain on one of our bikes. Again, we’ll have a full first look up next week with all real-world weights after weighing components in the office.

Lezyne Macro Plus GPS

Described as a suitable GPS for casual or serious riders, the Macro Plus brings GPS and smart features down to a lower price point than much of the competition, plus the option to run it in landscape or portrait orientations. The Plus version now has a map screen and improved water resistance, and the battery life is claimed to be up to 28 hours. It’s got full GPS so there’s no ned to pair with a phone to get your data, but it’s got bluetooth capabilities so you can get notifications and link it up to the GPS Ally phone app to sync to Strava et al.

Muc-Off Waterless Wash

Muc-Off Waterless Wash does what it says on the tin/bottle, cleaning and polishing your bike up without needing to use water. They claim it leaves a streak-free shine, and the bespoke formula is designed to contain any surface dirt to prevent scratching; it’s also recommended as a solution for doing quick mid-week cleans in between major washes. Can you really bring your bike back to life without water? Stu Kerton is cleaning the crud off his bike with it now, with a verdict coming shortly…
