Dallas Has The Largest Private Samurai Collection Out Of Japan Hidden Above A Restaurant – Narcity
Dallas has so many hidden gems but some of them are taken to the next level. The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum: The Samurai Collection is the largest samurai collection outside of Japan and it’s located right here in Texas. The collection was put on display in 2012 and has over 1,000 items in the collection.
Some of the items on display include armor, masks, helmets, and weaponry. The collection is ever-growing and rotates twice a year to give visitors something cool and new to look at. The museum is definitely a hidden gem as it is above a restaurant in Harwood. You can take a self-guided tour around the museum and they even have a mini library filled with books about the samurai’s adventures. The museum gives you a look at things like arrow boxes where weapons where stored.
Around the museum, there are mannequins of both humans and horses decked out in traditional gear. You’ll see horses with masks that make them look like fierce dragons. Guests will also have a chance to see beautiful accessories that they carried around with them.
Admission to this awesome museum is free so you can stop and just walk in. The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, from 11a.m.to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
